Programs
The school operates with Montessori's philosophies and theories and a full range of her materials through to the end of the Casa (3 to 6 years) program. Support materials are used at the Junior (6 to 9 years), Intermediate (9 to 12 years) and the Senior Elementary (12 to 13 years) levels.
Our Montessori Method is designed to support each child to become an exceptionally well-rounded, responsible and self-reliant individual who will demonstrate a love of learning, self-confidence and sense of fair play throughout life. The Montessori Method functions without the confines of a traditionally structured classroom.

Program Enhancements
Art
Creative expression is crucial in a Montessori education. To help nurture their creativity, The Elementary Art Programme offers children the ability to experiment with different techniques and mediums through direct instruction and hands-on practice. This experience helps students appreciate each medium’s unique qualities and exposes children to various artists, movements and periods using games and critiques.
Physical Education
Movement and gymnastics, cooperative games, teamwork, and athletics are the focus of the physical education program for Casa and Elementary students. Each child has an opportunity to grow and excel as an individual and as a member of a team through a variety of games and athletic activities. MLCP is actively involved in many interschool events and competitions. Skiing and skating are part of each year's winter sports calendar.
Computer Studies
Computer classes begin at the Junior level. Students learn the basic components of the computer and keyboarding and grow with abilities. The program includes internet safety and computer related projects. Coding, ability appropriately through Scratch and Rhythm is offered. Curriculum through the Elementary years including animation, photoshop, film studies and Office.
French
From an early age, children are exposed to the sounds and rhythms of the French language through games, songs and activities. Lessons initially include counting, colors and basic vocabulary. Older students begin to study French grammar and the cultures of the French-speaking world. MLCP proudly offers a Bilingual Program beginning at the Junior Elementary level.
Music
Music classes, with a concentration on movement, encourage children to feel and enjoy music through physical activities. Concepts such as beat, meter, rhythm, tempo and pitch recognition become internalized as children develop the ability to listen, discover and understand rhythmic and harmonic elements. Students regularly demonstrate their performance skills for the entire school community in assemblies and concerts. Senior Elementary students choose and study band instruments and play for various celebrations throughout the year.
Civics
Intermediate and Senior students participate in a rich and varied civics program that emphasizes civic resposibilities, banking, governmental initiatives, political decisions and impacts, current events and Canada's role on the world stage.
Community Service
Teaching children about our responsibility to the community at large begins at an early age. Children and parents offer contributions of money and non-perishable food items that are then collected at special assemblies and sent to local agencies. Middle Elementary students do on-site community service assistance. Older students have opportunities to leave campus and perform volunteer work in places such as a nearby assisted-living complex. All students are taught to be responsible to their classmates, teachers and larger community through their words, actions and deeds.
Extra Curricular
A variety of extra ciricular activities are offered each term. These can include dance, guitar, piano, calligraphy, drama, music, craft club and karate. See the main foyer for registration information.
Senior Projects
In their eighth year, the last of Upper Elementary, students embark on year long activities. Here, they integrate the research and academic skills that they have acquired throughout their previous Elementary years. At this level grade 7 and 8 students are often responsible for the presentation of religious or cultural celebrations to the younger student body.
Offsite Year End Trips
A three or four day away experience each year provides a unique opportunity for Elementary children to learn about other areas of Canada and practice independence in new and exciting ways. Older children act as mentors and leaders for younger children and help build and strengthen a sense of community.
